When you think of Málaga, many different ways to enjoy the province come to mind.
From comfortable white-sand coves to relax in on the Costa del Sol, to the mountains of the Sierra de las Nieves with their hiking trails, not forgetting all the small inland towns of Málaga with their whitewashed streets. To give you a much fuller picture of everything this part of Andalusia has to offer, we have gathered all the essential places you should visit in the province of Málaga.
The Costa del Sol is full of small beaches and coves where you can enjoy a good day by the Mediterranean. The sun always shines in the province of Málaga. So here is a beach route along the Málaga coast.
In Estepona, Playa del Cristo, one of the most popular on the coast, is worth a stop. A little further east, in Marbella, Cabopino and its Dunas de Artola, declared a Natural Monument by the Junta de Andalucía in 2001, is another place to try.
Once in Málaga, stop at Pedregalejo beach and try the sardine skewers. Don't forget Nerja's beautiful beaches: the beach below the Maro cliffs offers a spectacular setting. The famous Calahonda beach, just below the Balcón de Europa, is a must on any visit to the province of Málaga.

The cave was discovered completely by chance in the 1950s by a group of young people from Nerja. Today, this spectacular corner of the province of Málaga is listed as a site of cultural interest.
Part of the Cueva de Nerja can be visited, and the whole cave covers almost 140,000 m². Inside, it is divided into three galleries, some reaching 40 metres in height, although only one of them, the more “touristic” one, is open to the public all year round.
Besides the usual tourist visit, various music events are held in the caves, thanks to their excellent acoustics. For example, the Cueva de Nerja International Music and Dance Festival fills summer nights with great artists in gospel, classical music, blues or flamenco.
El Torcal de Antequera is a unique natural site, declared a World Heritage Site by Unesco. What makes it so special are the shapes the limestone rocks have taken over the centuries, creating a textbook example of a karst landscape.
You can follow one of the waymarked trails through the natural area, or take a guided route through the most remarkable spots of El Torcal de Antequera.
Frigiliana is considered one of the most beautiful places in Spain. Steep, whitewashed streets, cobbled pavements, windows full of colourful flowers and an atmosphere that is hard to put into words.
To really understand Frigiliana's charm, you have to visit it. Spending a few days in this paradise is well worth it. You can visit Frigiliana's old quarter, known as the Barribarto, one of the best-preserved historic centres of Arab origin in the province of Málaga.
You can also visit the Axarquía archaeological museum or the Santa Fiora botanical garden. Stroll through its streets, find the prettiest corners and enjoy the charm of this little corner of the province of Málaga.
Let's talk about another of the incredible landscapes of the province of Málaga: El Caminito del Rey. Human hands are behind this incredible place. The Desfiladero de los Gaitanes is a gorge carved by the Guadalhorce river which, in places, is only 70 cm wide and up to 100 metres deep.
Wearing a helmet and taking great care, you can follow the route between huge vertical walls, including the Caminito del Rey. This must-see corner of the province of Málaga lies between the municipalities of Álora, Antequera and Ardales. It can be reached from the north, from the Guadalhorce reservoirs, and from the south, from El Chorro.

El Caminito del Rey was built to make use of the El Chorro water reservoirs and generate power.
