Dénia has fine sandy beaches to the north and a rocky coastline to the south. Its exceptional climate and its beaches make the town very attractive, but there is more to it. Tourism in Dénia offers endless possibilities. This coastal town in the north of the province of Alicante offers culture, historic heritage and quality food in an unrivalled setting on the Costa Blanca.
If you are planning to visit Dénia and do not know where to start, we recommend heading up to the top. The castle of Dénia has more than 2,000 years of history and brings together the legacy of the different cultures that have passed through the area. Today, it houses the Archaeological Museum, with 4 rooms covering the Iberian, Roman, Muslim and Christian periods. A perfect plan if you do not know what to see in Dénia in a day! If you have children with you, make a stop at the Toy Museum in Dénia. It displays vintage toys more than a century old, which show how important the toy industry was in the town in the first half of the 20th century. A charming place!
However, the town's biggest tourist attraction is its Costa Blanca beaches. The port of Dénia divides the coastline into two parts: Les Marines (to the north) and Les Rotes (to the south). In Les Marines, you will find the best-known beaches, which tend to be busier. You can also try water sports such as sailing, rowing and canoeing. The southern part has a rockier landscape, with coves, clear water and the Montgó nature park as a backdrop. One last recommendation: the Cova Tallada, a spectacular cave between Dénia and Jávea, in the nature reserve of Cabo de San Antonio and well worth a visit.
To drive to Dénia from Valencia, take the AP-7 and leave at exit 62. If you prefer public transport, we recommend combining train and bus: there are daily trains from Valencia to Gandía, and from Gandía an Alsa bus will take you to Dénia.
Dénia was chosen by UNESCO as a Creative City of Gastronomy in 2015, a worldwide recognition of the quality and variety of its local food. The town's pride is Quique Dacosta, whose restaurant of the same name has no fewer than 3 Michelin stars! If you are looking for the most exquisite and innovative dishes, book a table there. The restaurant is at C/ Rascassa, 1, in the El Poblet area. At Casa Federico, you will find the most authentic seafood. It has stood in the middle of Dénia's beach since 1980 (C/ Àusias March, 22). A restaurant where tradition and Mediterranean cooking always have their place, at a very good price and with attentive service.
There is accommodation in Dénia to suit every taste, depending on what you are looking for. One of the best-known hotels in Dénia is the Hotel Port Dénia. 50 metres from Marineta beach, it has outdoor and indoor pools (spa) for guests. Plenty of facilities, such as a children's play area, entertainment programmes, a terrace and a gym, will make you want to stay. Address: Partida Sorts La Mar, 47. There are also plenty of cheap places to stay in Dénia: the Hostal Cristina, in the old town a few metres from the castle, and the Dénia Meeting Point hostel, designed for young people.
